Odis C Bright's Obituary
Odis affectionately known as “Dick” was born in Bear Creek North Carolina on August 22, 1930. He was born to Gregson and Pearl Bright. He was the eldest of 2 children. His parents and sister, Shelby preceded him in death. He entered the Army Air Corps in 1947 at the age of 17. He was stationed in many places, one was West Germany and proudly served in the medical corps during the Berlin Air Lift. At Bartow Air Force Base he was stationed and met his wife Norma, they married in December 1952 and were married for 65 years. He had 2 children; Kathie Cartwright and Sharron Carey (Sherry). He had three granddaughters, Stephanie Gillen, Andrea Ulmer and Amy Cartwright. He also had 2 great grandchildren; Patrick and Natalie Gillen. As he and Norma traveled through his Air Force career, they met and had many friends. He also served as the soul medical personnel (Doc) on the U.S. occupied island of Iwo Jima, in 1964.He was responsible for the health and safety of the men on the island. Dick retired from the Air Force in 1969 after 22 years of active military service. He and Norma settled in Merritt Island Florida where he entered the world of air conditioning repair. After 3 years they moved to Longwood and lived there for more than 20 years. He worked at Walt Disney World for 15 years, then retired to Mt. Dora. They have made many friends and have seen their daughters and granddaughters through their educations and marriages. His greatest pleasure was being with his wife and family. The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 11, 2018 from 10:00AM until 11:00AM at Steverson Hamlin & Hilbish Funeral Home, Tavares. A Funeral Service will follow in the funeral home chapel at 11:00AM. Interment will take place at Lakeside Memory Gardens, Eustis, FL.
