John R Shears' Obituary
John R. Shears of Leesburg passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2021 at the age of 87 years. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts. John proudly served his country in the US Navy from 1951 – 1954. He worked for the State of Connecticut until he retired in 1996. He and his wife, Carolyn, moved to Leesburg from Killingly, Connecticut when he retired. John was a member of St. Andrew Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church in Eustis. He was also a member of the Order of St. Ignatius of Antioch. John was an avid reader. He enjoyed stamp collecting and loved to play Golf in his younger years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn in April 2018 after 62 years of marriage. He was also preceded by his daughter, May Ellen Jalbert; his grandson, Shawn Duffany; and his brother, Robert Coolidge. John is remembered and will be dearly missed by his daughter and son-in-law, Jeanne and Alan Duffany of Thomaston, Connecticut; daughter, Victoria Shears of Danielson, Connecticut; daughter and son-in-law, Billie Jo and Kenneth Bernhard of New Lonndon, Connecticut; grandchildren, Jennifer Bouchard, Rebecca Shears, Ryan Bouchard and Megan Bouchard; and great granddaughters, Elizabeth Rivera and Lilly Serbeck.
Family and friends are invited to gather for viewing on Wednesday, February 3 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel. A Vesper Service will start at 6:30 PM. A Funeral Service will start at 11:00 AM on Thursday at the St. Andrew Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church. Burial with military honors will follow the church service at Lakeside Memory Gardens in Eustis.
