John Edward Downey's Obituary
John Edward Downey, age 80, of Tavares, Florida passed away peacefully in his home on Wednesday, July 20, 2022. He was the son of William and Dorothy Downey of Pittsburgh PA, born on February 2, 1942.
His family was the biggest part of his life. He was always full of love and knew how to make us all laugh and smile. John married his love, Martha in January of 1963. He enjoyed spending time with his entire family including his two girls, five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
He had many life experiences that demonstrated his engineering talents, such as automotive mechanic, air conditioning technician, JJ vending business, beautiful woodworking and remodeling. In his spare time, he enjoyed working on new structures and creations for his family and friends. He loved riding his bike and building his one-of-a-kind golf cart. He also made the most delicious chocolate fudge ever. We will always remember him and keep him in our hearts forever.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Martha Jane Downey; his sister Dorothy Ann Opdyke; his two daughters Beverly Jean Green and husband David and Martha Jane Smith and husband Scott; his five grandchildren, John Edward Brown, Amanda Renee Smith, Andrea Marlene Junco and husband Ivan, Zachary David Green, Thomas Isaac Green; and his five great grandchildren Nicholas Lionel Junco, Audrey Mae Junco, Ryan Alexander Junco, Ava Marie Junco and Marlie Jean Jackson. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Alice Demont.
