Donald E. Slate, DDS, 93, of Tavares, FL, passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2020.
Donald was born on Saturday, August 28, 1926, to the late Raymond and Irma Slate. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, where he served as a Hospital Corpsman for our grateful nation. He married Barbara Evans in 1948, and they moved from Detroit, MI, to Miami in 1953. He practiced as a dentist and orthodontist in South Florida and then Lake County until his retirement. Donald enjoyed fishing, vacationing in the North Carolina mountains, and listening to jazz. He was an active member of The Church of Whistling Pines in Umatilla, FL.
Dr. Slate was predeceased by the love of his life, Barbara, on September 19, 2016. He is survived by his sons Stephen (Janice) Slate, Michael (Jan) Slate, and Peter (Melissa) Slate; daughters Cynthia (Robert) Bidinotto-Slate, Candace (Ray) Hardisky, and Shelley (Steve) Harty; fourteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.
Donald was a devoted husband and a loving father, grandfather, and friend who will be deeply missed by many. A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, February 01, 2020, at The Church of Whistling Pines at 1:00 p.m., located at: 16311 Whistling Pines Rd., Umatilla, FL 32784. The Slate family also invites you to join them after the service at the church for food, fellowship, and to share memories of Donald.
